Collection: The Sea

Painting the sea if you live around the coastline of Ireland is a natural subject - whether it is an estuary at low tide or a full storm,  from jagged rocks and foaming seas, to reflected light, it is a constant challenge and ever changing.

I have also enjoyed the challenge of drawing and painting seaweed through the surface of water. I love the complexity and near abstract feel to this work, but which is still a representative painting.

In more recent work i have found myself drawn to the figure in within the landscape, inspired by unexpectedly encountering fishermen or farmers gather seaweed along the shore. The presence of the human figure tells its owns story, which i leave for the viewer to interpret.
