As a hillwalker, I have come across these magical little plants that grow in the damp peaty ground on the hills in West Cork. I first painted them on Sheepshead peninsula, but the are also up on the hills behind where I live. They thrive in our poor peaty wet ground here.

This Painting was for the West Cork Creates 2022 exhibition called 'FOLK'. I based my paintings for the exhibition on the Fionnán grass. This beautiful word is the Irish name for the mountain grass, and is still used today. It is everywhere on the hills in west cork, particularly where I live between Bantry and Glengarriff.  It changes seasonally, and thus changes the colour of the hills.

The original painting now lives very happily in Dublin, but is available as a print.
